Description

The Batemo Cell Designer is the ultimate tool for battery cell design. It combines Batemo’s latest modeling technology with an efficient methodology that leads to success. Together, we make your cell development a controllable development process with predictable timeline and high-quality results.
The underlying idea is to never start from scratch but with your latest cell, electrode, electrolyte or material. First, we create a physical model for you – the most accurate available, guaranteed – and integrate it into the Batemo Cell Designer. Using the tool, you vary battery cell design parameters and predict the dynamic performance under all conditions. This is how you quantify and understand the link between cell design changes and your performance targets. Overall, you maximize your cell technology and build better battery cells with less resources a lot faster.

Fast

Identifying the best battery cell design requires thousands of simulations. The Batemo Cell Designer runs within a full automation backend and simulates within seconds.

Physical

Varying battery cell designs with simulations requires to precisely describe all relevant electrical, chemical, thermal and physical processes inside the cell. The Batemo Cell Designer builds on Batemo’s unique modeling technology and gets the physics right!

Accurate

The Batemo Cell Designer builds on the Batemo Cell Model, the most accurate battery cell model there is – guaranteed! We always demonstrate the validity through extensive measurements that prove highest accuracy.
The methodology we apply is extremely thorough and novel in battery cell design. It combines Batemo simulations, prototyping and testing in the most efficient way possible.
  • 1st

We integrate the model of your cell into the
    Batemo Cell Designer.

  • 2nd

You perform a simulation study using the Batemo Cell Designer to predict your performance targets under meaningful cell design parameter variations.

    • Example cell design parameters: cell size, housing type, tabs, current collectors, loadings, particle sizes, micro-structures and many more.
    • Example targets: energy, power, charging time, aging, cost, safety and many more.

  • 4th

Iterate through the steps 1 to 3 until you reach your targets.

The effectiveness of the Batemo Cell Designer comes from the fact that the entry can be anywhere along the technology readiness levels (TRL). You can start with material data sheets or coated electrodes. If you have a single-layer A-sample that is great, but you can also go in later in the development process. The Batemo Cell Designer predicts whatever exit point you choose: You can upscale virtually from sheets to A-samples but also to final size production samples. That is why the tool is used along the full chain: by material producers, cell manufacturers and OEMs.

Predicting battery cell design variations with the Batemo Cell Designer is easy. Just like the real battery cell, the Batemo Cell Designer has an electrical and a thermal interface. The interface is designed to make integration straight-forward: Setting initial conditions is intuitive and comfortable using the graphical parameter interface. Then you supply the electrical and thermal boundary conditions and are ready to go. This is how you simulate the dynamic performance of your battery cell under all conditions and predict your targets. Everything you can do with the real cell, you can now do with the Batemo Cell Designer in your simulations. This is not only true for data you can measure in the laboratory. The Batemo Cell Designer calculates additional, highly relevant internal cell quantities: inner temperatures, electrochemical electrode potentials or insights about loss generation.

integration

We create the Batemo Cell Designer for the MATLAB simulation environment. This makes building models, configuring simulations, creating automations and data processing with visualizations super easy.
To give you a smooth onboarding, we schedule regular calls with Batemo Support to get started. Afterwards, you take over and can rely on permanent support by Batemo. Another option is to let Batemo Engineering do your first cell design study. In an initial project, we identify the optimal battery cell design that reaches your targets. We deliver all models, scripts and data so that you can take over anytime, if you wish to do so.

Advantages

You use the Batemo Cell Designer to make your battery cell development simulation-based, making it faster, lower cost while leading to better battery cells. This is how we generate value and contribute to your success.

Lower cost

The Batemo Cell Designer reduces cost of your battery cell development. Your development gets more efficient saving expenses on prototyping, testing and engineering development time.
This is great but let’s get specific: In the graph below, you see the initial battery cell design of a real cell marked as a red diamond. The orange dots show other cells BATEMO worked with and demonstrates our deep know-how of the technological landscape. On that basis, we vary cell design parameter and show in the red-to-green color-code area which targets of gravimetric energy density, gravimetric power density and charging time are reached. The next prototype cell design for prototyping is marked as an orange star. The cell design is significantly better: energy density is about the same, but power density increases by about 30% and the charging time is almost cut in half.
So why wait? Get your hands on the Batemo Cell Designer. With BATEMO, you have the perfect partner to push your battery cell designs to the next level!
